For expert perspective on an analysis of school leadership by the George W. Bush Institute, Education Week turned to NISL CEO Robert C. Hughes. The Bush Institute report outlined the importance of a healthy school climate and the shortcomings of leadership training to build relationships for support and learning among staff and students. Forty-three states include developing a positive school culture in their standards for principals, but most aren’t training principals to take on this leadership role.
